R. Lakshman departsThe veteran producer, thinker and guide too many in the Kannada filmdom R. Lakshman after three years of struggle died of ill health at the age of 82.

R. Lakshman starting his career as Manager in a theatre rose to the level of producer. The Kannada film ?Bangaradha Manushya? the all time classic film starring Dr. Rajakumar, Bharathi that is directed by Siddalingaiah (Tamil actor Murali?s father) was all time record in the box office. It ran for 109 weeks and no other film has run so much in the history of Kannada cinema history was produced by R. Lakshman.

R. Lakshman intelligent thoughts and urge for quality made him to take up very good films like Bagya Jyothi, Bale Huchcha, Devara Makkalu etc. The last film he made was ?Bandha Muktha?. He was the President of South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce for one year and headed the KFCC for one year as President. He was the first one start the Fans Association and edited the Kannada and English home magazine of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce for a long time. He was the recipient of Dada Saheb Phalke Academy recognition for his service to Kannada cinema industry in 2007.

R. Lakshman died on Saturday night at his Sadashivanagara residence. He came from treatment of urinary problems in the evening and around 8.50 pm when he was asked to get up for dinner he was found dead.

R. Lakshman leaves behind four daughters and one son. His son Naganna is very prominent director in Kannada cinema. The cremation was held on Sunday afternoon in Bangalore.

The film media at a television program assignment on Saturday evening mourned the death of R. Lakshman.
